The Intel® Junior Physics Investigation tools have been designed in collaboration with the Junior Science Support Service to help teachers and students practice an investigative approach to problem solving which is central to the revised Junior Certificate Science syllabus.
Each tool has clearly defined objectives. Some of the tools are less structured while others follow a typical experimental based approach:
| Density Investigation Tool
This tool enables students and teachers explore mass and volume for a variety of solids and liquids and hence determine their densities. The investigation is set in a crime lab where finding the densities of the various items can solve the crime

| Mirrors Simulation
This simulation illustrates the reflection of light by plane mirrors. It can be used to demonstrate and explain ray diagrams and the operation of a simple periscope
|
 |
| Lenses Simulation
This simulation illustrates an application of light refraction using lenses. The challenge is to complete a series of tasks based on light refraction using both concave and convex lenses

Electromagnet Simulation
This simulation explains how an electromagnet works. It illustrates the connection between the power applied, the number of coils and magnetism. The challenge is to change the magnetism of a scrap lifter in a scrap yard to remove various amounts of scrap

|
Expansion and Contraction Simulation
This simulation illustrates the expansion of solids, liquids and gases when heated and contraction when cooled. The challenge is to control virtual bridges using expansion and contraction so that a car can pass over them

Stretching Investigation Tool
This Stretching Investigation tool enables students and teachers explore the connection between the force applied and changes in length, for example, on a variety of materials. The objective of the simulation is not to find numerical solutions or to verify Hooke’s law; it is to allow students to practice scientific process.
